Youth Under Attack: Pro-Contraception Sex-Ed.

In Issue One, 2007, of their quarterly magazine, Priests for Life Canada has an article by Fr. Jim Whalen entitled Youth Under attack: Pro-Contraception Sex-Ed.

It’s worth reprinting here.

**********

Youth Under Attack: Pro-Contraception Sex-Ed

Due primarily to the sexual revolution in the 1960s and 1970s, which promoted sex outside of marriage, as well as multiple sexual partners, teen sexual activity has multiplied and has resulted in increased sexually transmitted diseases (STDs), as well as the spread of teen pregnancy. Each day in America over 42,000 cases of STDs occur: 10,000 of them among teenagers. Each day over 2,500 teen girls become pregnant. The situation rapidly went out of control. Until the 1970s there were only two primary STDs, and both were curable. Today there are over twenty-five STDs and many of them arc incurable. Teens have been sold a bill of goods by being told that a piece of latex or a pill will protect them from the devastating consequences of STDs and unwanted pregnancy.

Understanding what goes on in the teen brain will help clarify the picture. There are two different approaches. Two main branches are actively involved: the amygdala a lower portion of the brain, which is active at the level of feelings, impulses, and emotional responses, and the pre-frontal cortex, which is active in planning, decision-making, seeing consequences, moral intelligence, rational behavior, and abstract thinking. During adolescence, brain pruning takes place where strong connections are made in the brain based on whether they are used or not. Parts that are used are strengthened. Parts that are not used are eliminated. The so-called comprehensive or condom-based sex-ed teaches to the amygdala. The false reasoning is that since teens can’t seem to control their sexual urges, something must be done to protect them. Abstinence education and character development programs teach to, and help to develop, the pre-frontal cortex. Abstinence is the safest and healthiest lifestyle, providing emotional, cultural, social, and physical benefits for today’s youth. Youth are capable and mature enough to make healthy choices for their lives. Abstinence programs also teach to the amygdala by using stories, activities, and action-based learning.

Youth are under attack in pro-contraceptive sex-education programs. There is a need to clarify whether sex-ed is protection or promotion. In America, national studies of the most popular so-called comprehensive programs of sex-ed, a mere 4.7% of their content focused on abstinence. These programs include exercises such as: condom relay races, shopping assignments for condoms, fantasizing in class about sexual activity, encouraging alternative sexual activities, and acceptance of alternative life styles (e.g.: experimentation with various partners, showering together, fantasizing with or without a partner, etc.). The current message being taught in regard to responsibility is: (1) don’t rape or pressure anyone into sexual activity; (2) don’t make a baby; and (3) don’t catch or spread a sexually-transmitted disease. No comprehensive sex-ed program has been found to reduce the rate of STDs or pregnancy in program participants. The one program that reduced pregnancy involved injecting participating teens with the Depo Provera birth control. The National Institutes of Health reports that there is insufficient evidence that condoms offer protection against the most common STDs in America today, including Human Papillomavirus, Genital Herpes, Chlamydia, Trichomoniasis, Chancroid, and Syphilis. The fact is that teen sex produces far more pain than pleasure. “No sex outside marriage” is the golden rule that should be taught and followed. Wait until marriage is still sound advice as well as the wisdom of our Creator.

Teaching teens about contraception has not worked. Teens who do not exhibit self-control by engaging in sexual activity are not likely to exhibit self-control in the use of contraceptive devices (e.g., six steps to correct condom use). According to research, teens are more likely to act in the moment, impulsively, without thinking about consequences, especially when strong emotional and physical feelings are involved. Studies have shown that the typical use of condoms is inconsistent with teens and STD rates have increased significantly during the same time condom use has increased. Condom use can only reduce - not eliminate the risk of STDs. The consequences are very damaging (i.e.: each year 100, 000 to 200,000 females become infertile as a result of Pelvic Inflammatory Disease (PIV) caused by Chlamydia and Gonorrhea.

The overwhelming majority of young people who have had sex regret their decision and wish they had waited. Research data shows the connection between teen sex, depression and suicide. Oxytocin, the bonding hormone that is released during sexual arousal is not stopped by contraception. Broken hearts are not protected by condoms. The majority of young people want to have lifelong stable marriage relationships. In a national poll, 95% stated they wanted a strong message to be delivered to abstain from sex until marriage.

A personal witness to a teenage break up reveals the emotional trauma experienced: “I was fifteen and we had been going out for a year. We went all the way. A few days after we broke up, it was the most painful time in my life. I was depressed, moody, nervous… I felt like a failure. I dropped out of sports. My grades weren’t terrific. I didn’t go out again until college. I’ve had mostly one night stands in the last couple of years. I’m afraid of falling in love” (college senior).

Waiting until marriage to be sexually active is possible for youth. It means starting out with a firm resolution with no exceptions. Abstinence is the healthy means to a chaste and happy lifestyle doing the will of God. It means tuning out the opposite messages and pressure from peers. It means making sure that when you date the person, your date understands your decision and respects it. It means showing real love means waiting. It means being responsible for each other, according to God’s law.

When teens are challenged by the truth, and by the facts, they can respond accordingly: “Treating the other sex with special consideration and high regard stems from choosing abstinence. An individual who desires to stay abstinent is rewarded a thousand times over. It feels good not to fret about STDs, and about not having to take care of a child while in high school. …My belief of sex involves two people who give their body and soul to each other for a lifetime” (Daniel Shallcross, age 17, Teens Speak Out essay contest winner).

WHAT CAN YOU DO?

  1. Parents, priests, and educators should examine abstinence and sex-ed curricula being taught in their local school systems.
  2. Offer positive options where needed to make necessary changes.
  3. Contact local officials, school administrators, and legislators to let them know your opinion on this important issue.

Miracle Newborn, Dropped Into Pit By Mother, Survives 28-Foot Drop

Christela [“Christ was there” in Creole] Belle was an unwanted newborn, dropped down an outhouse toilet pit in Haiti by her teenage mother on July 8.

But indeed, Christ was there, and miraculously the infant “survived the dramatic fall without a bruise or scratch.”

The Christian Post carries the account below.

**********

Miracle Newborn Survives 28-Foot Drop

The Hands and Feet Project – a children’s village in Haiti formed by Christian rock group Audio Adrenaline – is happy to announce that they are now nurturing a 19-day-old baby girl who survived a 28-foot drop down an outhouse toilet.

The unwanted child was born on July 8 in Cyvadier (Jacmel), Haiti, and survived the dramatic fall without a bruise or scratch.

Her heroic rescue has brought together the villagers and workers in the area who can describe the situation only as a miracle.

“I knew this child would be fine,” explained Darry “DJ” Williams, an American U.N. soldier who aided in the rescue, in a statement. “After being dropped 30-feet into a pit and left for dead, and there were no bruises, no signs of trauma, and she was resting? I knew I had witnessed a miracle. Everyone involved knew it.”

A teenage boy named Toussaint was the first to respond after he noticed a big difference with the baby’s mother.

Toussaint knew that the mother had tried to deny being pregnant during her term, and when he saw her one day return from the bathroom with blood on her legs and a smaller stomach, he followed the trail of blood back to the outhouse.

After hearing the cry from within the outhouse toilet, he immediately contacted police and attempted to pull the baby out through a lasso he had made and when that failed, started chipping at the newly made toilet.

“Toussaint told me that the mother had dropped the newborn in the pit because she didn’t want it,” said Williams in a statement. “I could see that the baby was moving and knew that time was of the essence.”

Williams quickly notified the Sri Lankan army (that was acting on behalf of the United Nations), which then responded by quickly dismantling a toilet two stalls down. They then lowered a soldier who brought up the baby wrapped in a towel.

After rushing to a nearby hospital that was poorly staffed, they contacted a friend of Williams that worked for the Hands and Feet Project, Drex Stuart, who took the baby to their private hospital.

The group is covering the entire medical expenses and after an inspection, doctors announced that the baby was doing just fine.

“I am so amazed by the story of these rescuers,” said Mark Stuart, Drex Stuart’s son and lead singer for Audio Adrenaline, in a statement. “In Haiti, children are often abandoned and orphaned, and to see the teamwork between the police and the U.N. soldiers on behalf of this one baby, it is a would-be tragedy turned to joy.”

The Justice of the Peace has now officially granted full rights to the baby to the Hands and Feet Project. A policeman from the station gave the child her first name, Christela, translated to mean “Christ was there” in Creole. Her last name, Belle, takes its roots from one of Audio Adrenaline’s songs “Beautiful.”

“Christela is definitely a miracle child and was God’s chosen vessel to bridge the gap between the U.N., police and the community,” added Williams. “I am honored to have been a witness to this miracle. I am also humbled to have been asked by Drex to be her godfather.”

The Hands and Feet Project was first created in 2004 by the Grammy-award winning band with the goal to help unwanted orphaned children in Haiti. They currently have about 20 children with ages ranging from 15 days to 9 years, and hope to provide shelter, education, food, and a Christian upbringing to them.

“Without programs like the Hands and Feet Project, many children like Christela would have little hope at all,” concluded Mark Stuart. “Not only was this project on hand to help Christela in the early moments of her life, but it will be there for her and other orphaned children in the days and years ahead. We are hoping to help raise a generation in Haiti that will change their country so we can be out of a job and orphanages can be empty.”

Christela’s mother is a juvenile who had been kicked out of her home after her parents found out she was pregnant. She was sentenced to jail by a judge, but is doing fine medically.

“Keep praying that we will be here and ready to take children that no one wants or can take care of!” added Drex Stuart. “Don’t forget to pray for the mother, too.”

**********

Saving Christela was said to be a decisive act, a brave rescue, even a miracle.

But what would happen in Canada if rescuers wanted to save tiny unwanted children about to be discarded and thrown into a waste bin or suctioned out of the mother with “medical” apparatus?

They would be arrested and put in jail for trespassing on abortion mill property.

You see, in Canada, if an abortionist is the one who does the discarding, the law fully protects the abortionist—and the mother—from prosecution.

Fortunately for Christela,

  1. her mother carried her full term
  2. her mother wasn’t a Canadian

Had her mother been a Canadian, the child might never have been given a name, least of all the name “Christela.”

Isn't it time to change the law in Canada?

67,000 Member Amnesty Canada Has Lost 200 Supporters

Apparently, Amnesty Canada has lost only about 200 supporters in Canada as a result of its new advocacy for abortion rights.

This story has been ongoing for quite some time now and Vote Life, Canada! has blogged on this subject previously.

Yesterday, the Toronto Star gave us an update of sorts and provided Canadians with a more focused picture of the unfolding story. Of course the Star provides its readers with its usual pro-abortion, liberal bias but also reveals something more substantial of the Canadian Catholic dimension to the outcome.

Just to clarify the news item, Vote Life, Canada! notes that The Star's vague and incomplete reference was to the statement of the USCCB (United States Conference of Catholic Bishops), and not to the Canadian Bishops, when they noted

Earlier this month, the Conference of Catholic Bishops blasted Amnesty's abandonment of neutrality and called for the policy to be reversed next month at this year's general meeting in Mexico.

It is good to see the American Bishops taking an official stand on AI’s actions and calling for the rescinding of their new policy at next month’s international meeting of AI in Mexico.

However, with respect to the Canadian Bishops, the Star reports

The Canadian Conference of Bishops, however, has chosen a different course.

It has not commented on the policy switch; at least, not yet.

In fact, several bishops met with Amnesty staff in June to discuss "where we've had common ground in the past," says Canadian Amnesty president Gina Hill.

No directive has come down calling for a withdrawal of support, says Neil McCarthy, spokesperson for the Catholic Archdiocese of Toronto.

But he adds that Amnesty "can't be surprised" at the Church's reaction to the policy change.

"Life is sacred, and though there certainly are tragic circumstances in the world, abortion is abortion – you can't be selective in the circumstances. Donors will have to make the decision."

Here is another opportunity for the Catholic Bishops of Canada to draw the attention of Canadians and the world to the plight of unborn children. Here’s another chance for the Bishops to scream bloody murder and try to save Canada’s unborn. But so far we don’t have an official statement from the Canadian Bishops calling for a penalty to AI.

Perhaps because the CCCB statement is more than a year old, or perhaps because it’s a nearly useless statement, the Toronto Star did not make mention of the CCCB’s July 18, 2006 statement on the proposed new Amnesty policy. Perhaps that is why The Star reported that the CCCB

has not commented on the policy switch; at least, not yet.

However, the Bishops’ comment is not much more than that—simply a comment. You’d never say there were human lives involved here. You’d never say that countless little innocent unborn children created in the image of God and representing the future of mankind were going to be ripped to death or cut into pieces because of this new proposal by AI.

The Catholic Bishops say they find this to be “most regrettable” and issue a timid notice:

This change in policy would make it difficult for Catholics to continue supporting the work of Amnesty International.

Does that sound very threatening to you? I’m sure AI is not exactly trembling over such a weak-kneed, cowardly statement.

Will the Bishops condemn Amnesty’s move? According to the spokesman for the Archdiocese of Toronto, Archbishop Collins’ new appointment, it appears not…no, they’ll simply leave it to donors.

Donors will have to make the decision.

This sounds like the same familiar approach taken by too many Bishops in their dealings with individual Catholics on every matter of grave importance to their faith, abortion included. Their record communicates in essence:

"Let individual Catholics make the personal decision about abortion…we don’t want to be caught in the middle. We don’t want to declare that it is murder…we prefer not to use that term at all. There are many complex facets to abortion in today’s society and it won’t help women by telling them that aborting a fetus is murder of their child.

"Besides, today’s Church pedagogy demands a different approach…we don’t want to say to Catholics: Don’t use birth control. Don’t have an abortion. Let the individual Catholic work that out on a deep, interior level, and let them come to their own conclusions."

How many of those 67,000 Amnesty members in Canada are Catholics? I venture to guess that they comprise the majority membership. Now imagine if the Bishops of Canada, in unanimous fashion, exerted ALL the influence they could muster in persuading Canadian Catholics in every province and diocese to threaten termination of their Amnesty membership unless AI withdrew its plans to include abortion as a human right.

Imagine if they actually invested maximum effort and planning into such a campaign. Do you think Amnesty Canada would be so glib and defiant of Catholic opinion?

I say no. ABSOLUTELY NOT!

Such a groundswell of opposition would stop them in their tracks and the same would apply to every other nation if the Catholic Bishops of that nation were to take the same action.

Bear in mind that it is extremely unlikely that any other single group of individuals in any society could effect the level of change of which the Catholic Bishops are capable. [This same argument was advanced in Vote Life, Canada’s recent Open Letter to the Catholic Bishops of Canada, accounting for the failure of Catholic Bishops to mobilize the Catholic voting bloc in Canada in order to ensure legal rights for Canada’s Unborn.]

In fact, AI would never have dreamed of expanding their mandate to include a human “right” to abortion had they not been confident of the continued support of the average individual Catholic member. Sure, they knew there would be some noise, some strong statement from this Cardinal or that Cardinal, from this Conference or that Conference of Catholic Bishops. But would it cause them any substantial loss of support? AI had gauged the risk and determined it to be low. In fact, regarding Catholic support, The Star reports that Amnesty Canada

received donations from about 25 Catholics because we are doing this.
It appears AI gauged Catholic response at least somewhat accurately!

Let’s try to place all these thoughts into perspective. Vote Life, Canada! claims that the Catholic Bishops of Canada [and of other countries] have the power in their hands to dissuade AI from their new pro-abortion stance—a stance which will result in the deaths of thousands, possibly millions, more unborn children throughout the world. Yet they remain aloof from the matter and do not take the appropriate (or any) action.

If a Canadian citizen failed to take action to save the life of another individual whose life was imminently in jeopardy, I suspect that police would be inclined to lay charges. If, prior to some tragedy, an individual or group of individuals had previous knowledge of a defective condition which led to the deaths of innocent bystanders yet they had remained silent on the matter, they would certainly be prosecuted. Yet when Catholic Bishops are similarly derelict in their duties, with much more awful consequences, little if anything is thought of it, particularly by Catholics.

What we are witnessing is yet another repeat performance of the Canadian Bishops neglect and indifference to the violent deaths of innocent unborn human beings created in the image of God. Their inaction in the Amnesty International meltdown makes them substantially culpable in the ongoing abortion holocaust throughout not only Canada but throughout the world.

More shockingly, it also brands them as charlatans and hypocrites and even worse, wolves in sheep’s clothing, assuming the position of moral guardians and gatekeepers in Canadian society while permitting at the same time Satan’s demons of abortion to slip by those very gates and into the sheepfold of society, destroying, with full legal protection, the most innocent and vulnerable of citizens.

India Loses 10 Million Girls To Sex-Selective Abortion

India has opened a virtual Pandora’s Box of problems as a result of their failure to curb gender based abortion, despite having laws against it.
The mix of old customs and new technology [of ultrasound machines] means a shortage of girls that will haunt India for decades, say researchers.

The implications of a widening gender deficit include a general destabilization of society where unmarried young men are turning to crime and violence against women is increasing.

China shares the same sort of societal crisis stemming from its one child policy which usually translates in aborting females in favour of males.

No society, including Canada, can suffer the horrible consequences of tolerated, pervasive murder, particularly child-murder, for much longer than a generation. Nature shrieks from its loss and imbalance and demands retribution…to say nothing of God’s demands for justice.

*************

Grim finds highlight issue experts say has led to loss of 10m girls in 20 years

A hundred yards from a school playing field on the edge of Nayagarh, a small town in eastern India, is an innocuous damp circular patch covered with what appears to be sticks and stones.

A closer look reveals that the debris is shards of tiny skulls and bones, all that remains of more than 40 female foetuses - aborted because of their sex and then dumped in a disused well.

The secret tragedy of being conceived female in India burst into the open this week with the grim discovery of the well, dug on land earmarked for a private hospital - the Krishna clinic owned by an obstetrician, Nabakirshora Sahu, and his wife, Savitha. The latter is in custody but the medic is on the run.

Last Thursday Santish Mishra, a health official, was poking at the top of the hole, from which had been exhumed 132 bags of putrefying human remains. Above the grisly sight hangs an acrid smell, the telltale chemical stench of hospital waste used to hide the truth.

"Femur, skull, forearm - probably. We are pretty sure these are all female, aborted at about five months which is the legal limit," said Dr Mishra. "You can say it was a hidden mass grave."

In India ultrasound technology, coupled with a traditional preference for boys, has led to mass female foeticide. Although gender-based abortion is illegal, parents are choosing to abort female foetuses in such large numbers that experts estimate India has lost 10 million girls in the past 20 years. In the 12 years since selective abortion was outlawed only one doctor has been convicted of the crime.

Nursing homes

Authorities in Nayagarh said they will come down hard on clinics offering ultrasound scans to determine the sex of an unborn child and the "nursing homes" where abortions are carried out. All five clinics and eight nursing homes have been shut and sealed.

It is hard to believe that in such a small town illegal terminations could happen without official connivance - at least one government doctor has been arrested.

Two weeks ago an 11-year-old boy out playing in a grove at the edge of Nayagarh town opened a sealed bag to find bloody remains of seven female foetuses. Although the alarm was raised and local television stations aired shocking images, by the time the police arrived - three hours late - they had been removed.

"I was very scared. There was blood everywhere," said Upendra Kalasha, the boy who found the remains. "The people came but not the police."

Paresh Nayak, the top local civil servant, said: "Nobody said anything to me. The public have a responsibility to come forward. They did not and we were overtaken by events."

One of those events was the election of India's first female head of state, president Pratibha Patil. In her inaugural address this week to both houses of parliament she said India "must banish (the) social evil of female foeticide".

What happened in Nayagarh is merely the tip of the iceberg. Last month a doctor in Delhi was arrested after remains of aborted babies were found in a septic tank at his practice. In February police found the remains of 15 infants buried in the backyard of a hospital in the central state of Madhya Pradesh. A television investigation last year filmed dozens of doctors offering to perform illegal terminations of female foetuses and dump them in rivers or in fields.

The prejudices against having a daughter run deep in India, where tradition dictates that when she is married a woman's family must pay the groom's in-laws a large dowry. By contrast a son is considered an asset. Even leaving aside the wealth his bride will bring, a boy will inherit property and is seen as a way of securing parent-care in old age.

Development has not erased traditional values: in fact, selective abortion has been accelerating in a globalising India. Wealthier and better-educated Indians still want sons. A survey revealed that female foeticide was highest among women with university degrees. The urban middle classes can also afford the ultrasound tests to determine the sex of the foetus.

"We are seeing a rush of multinational companies selling ultrasound machines in India with little regard for how they are used," said Sabu George, a campaigner against female foeticide. "Chinese companies now sell machines at just 200,000 rupees (£2,500) half the price of American ones. Every small town doctor can get one and more families can afford the test."

The mix of old customs and new technology means a shortage of girls that will haunt India for decades, say researchers. The latest figures from a sample registration system which covers 1.3m households shows that for the two years up to 2005 Indian had just 880 female babies born to each 1,000 males.

Prem Chowdhry, who has studied the implications of a widening gender deficit, says unmarried young men are turning to crime and violence against women has increased. Some men in the rich northern state of Haryana have taken to buying brides from other parts of India. Many of these wives end up slaves and their children are shunned.

"We are seeing five to 10 households in every village where wives are brought," said Professor Chowdhry. "The pattern is being reproduced across India and we are staring at a huge problem for the future."

Open Letter To Brothers & Sisters At Saddleback Church

Since Rick Warren, world famous author of “Purpose Driven Life” and mega-church pastor of Saddleback Church in California, sparked controversy through an invitation to pro-abortion Senator Barack Obama to speak at Saddleback’s AIDS conference, I have wanted to post my own detailed response on behalf of unborn children in Canada (as well as the US.)

Today I discovered an Open Letter addressed to Rick Warren from Gregg Cunningham, Director, The Center For Bio-Ethical Reform. Gregg says much of what I wanted to express, and more. It’s a lengthy letter but well worth the read.

There are important issues involved here, most notably the responsibility for high profile evangelical leaders, as representatives of Christ, to take an uncompromising stand in defense of unborn children. The evangelical community in the US and in Canada is generally very weak on pro-life activism although there are notable exceptions. What is especially alarming is the trend for evangelicals to highlight other causes such as modern day slavery and AIDS while consigning child-killing to the sidelines as a “political” issue.

If you are unclear about the dynamics of this controversy, it may help you to know that Rick Warren is revered as a national spiritual leader in America with a huge degree of influence in evangelical circles. Pastor Warren, along with a “new breed” of evangelical leaders such as Bill Hybels of Willow Creek Community Church, seems to be defining a new paradigm with respect to social justice issues. They are more likely to speak out about more liberal causes like AIDS, Darfur, poverty and global warming than “controversial” social issues like abortion and same-sex marriage.

Vote Life, Canada! views the urgency of Gregg's letter to Rick Warren in the same light as its own recent Open Letter to the Catholic Bishops Of Canada.

OPEN LETTER TO BROTHERS & SISTERS AT SADDLEBACK CHURCH

Pastor Rick Warren and the "Global Summit on AIDS and the Church ": Saddleback Delivers; Obama Chortles & Jesus Cringes

From: Gregg Cunningham, Director, The Center For Bio-Ethical Reform

(Author's note: A draft of this letter was submitted to Pastor Rick Warren through A. Larry Ross Communications, his public relations firm, with a request for corrections of perceived misstatements of fact. Despite confirmation of receipt of the draft, no reply was forthcoming. Since the intial draft of this letter, Senators Obama and Clinton declared candidacies for the Presidency.)

ChristianityToday.com has posted a Billy Graham biography with a focus on the great evangelist's early crusades. The story is oddly relevant to the controversy sparked by Pastor Rick Warren's AIDS conference invitation to pro-abortion Senator Barack Obama.

...[A]t a time when sit-ins and boycotts were stirring racial tensions in the South, Graham invited Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. to discuss the racial situation with him and his colleagues. Then, before a capacity crowd at ... [Madison Square] Garden, he invited the black leader to join him on the platform and to lead the congregation in prayer. In his introduction, he said, 'A great social revolution is going on in the United States today. Dr. King is one of its leaders, and we appreciate his taking time out of his busy schedule to come and share this service with us tonight.'

The words did not explicitly endorse King, and King's prayer called for nothing more revolutionary than a 'brotherhood that transcends color,' but the implication was unmistakable: Graham was letting both whites and blacks know that he was willing to be identified with the revolution and its foremost leader, and King was telling blacks that Graham was their ally ... his voice was important in declaring that a Christian racist was an oxymoron.

Not so long ago, the argument that a racist could never be a true follower of Jesus was controversial. Today we debate whether a genuine salvation experience would invariably preclude the advocacy of abortion rights.

Pastor Warren's embrace of Senator Obama was as calculated as Pastor Graham's inclusion of Dr. King. Both were designed to send a message. Pastor Graham sought a closer association with civil rights activism. Pastor Warren seeks a closer association with AIDS activism. Both decisions were obviously going to be controversial. Among the civil rights activists Pastor Graham could have embraced, Dr. King was the most contentious for reasons which had everything to do with civil rights. Among the AIDS activists Pastor Warren could have invited, Senator Obama was the most divisive for reasons which had nothing to do with AIDS. Dr. King was controversial because he fought a system which was killing black people. Senator Obama is controversial because he champions a system which is killing unborn children. Pastor Graham's gesture insulted racists. Pastor Warren's offended pro-life activists. Pastor Graham wanted to distance himself from racists. Pastor Warren has removed any lingering doubt that he is moving away from pro-life activists.

He claims to be pro-life but he defines the term narrowly. He is a pro-life pacifist (as opposed to "activist " as in AIDS activism) whose opposition to abortion is essentially conceptual. He is detached. He avoids resistance which demands the risk and sacrifice he invests in the fight against AIDS.

He's "against " abortion in the same way the priest and Levite might have opposed mugging in Christ's Parable of the Good Samaritan; a theoretical, disengaged condemnation. It is not the anguished opposition which compels aggressive intervention. Feeling pity for victims is, of course, very different from taking pity on them. At least that's what Pastor Warren says about AIDS.

New York Magazine, May 28, 2007, in a statement not submitted to A. Larry Ross for comment, columnist John Heilemann quotes Pastor Warren on pro-life activism:

Whereas Falwell bemoaned the emerging strain of Evangelical environmentalism as 'Satan's attempt to redirect the church's primary focus,' Warren declares, 'The environment is a moral issue.' And regarding his pro-life stance, Warren says, 'I'm just not rabid about it.'

Merriam Webster Online defines "rabid " as "going to extreme lengths in expressing or pursuing a feeling, interest, or opinion. " When Pastor Warren says he's "just not rabid " about abortion he is in essence saying he is not hot, not cold but kind of lukewarm about abortion. In Revelation 3:13-22, Jesus says, "I know your deeds .... So because you are lukewarm and neither hot nor cold, I will spit you out of my mouth. " Is God "lukewarm " over child sacrifice or is He rabid?

In Ezekiel 16:20-21, 35-36, 43, He says, among other things, that His own people "... have enraged me ... " with child sacrifice.

In Psalm 106:37-42, He says, among other things, that because of their child sacrifice "... Jehovah's anger burned against his people and he abhorred them. That is why he let the heathen nations crush them. "

In Jeremiah 7:24-26, 30-31, He says, among other things, "... and they burn to death their little sons and daughters as sacrifices to their gods -- a deed so horrible I've never even thought of it .... "

In Jeremiah 19:3-5, 7-9, 11, God says, among other things, that because of child sacrifice, "... will I break this people and this city, as one breaks a potter's vessel, so that it can never be mended. "

It is pretty easy to take God's temperature here – and He is not lukewarm. He is hot. White-hot.

The Demonic Abortion Industry

From HLI, the largest pro-life organization in the world.

The following is an excerpt from my upcoming book on exorcism. One chapter of the book is entitled, “Pro-Life and Exorcism” and is devoted to reflecting on the evil of abortion from a spiritual perspective. As a caution for those who may not be accustomed to the language of spiritual warfare, I would mention that the view of abortion contained in the passage below is derived primarily from Jesus’ presentation of the devil as “a murderer from the beginning” (Jn 8:44) and from scriptural passages that identify other demons who collaborate with Satan in his attempt to destroy the very life of God’s children. Make sure to pray as you read this passage.

.............................................................................................

In what sense is abortion demonic?

The spiritual dimension of this grisly “business” is its systematizing of ritual blood sacrifice to the god of child murder, Moloch, who we know of from the severe condemnations of him in the Old Testament (Lev 18:21, 20:2-5, 1 Kings 11:5.33, 2 Kings 23:13 and Zephaniah 1:5). This demon of murder appears in many forms and cultures through history (Phoenician, Carthaginian, Canaanite, Celt, Indian, Aztec and others) but is always the same bloodthirsty beast that demands the killing of children as his form of worship. This demon is not content with a single act of murder here and there. His insatiable appetite for the death of innocents seeks public endorsement to justify his gruesome deeds, and he needs a systematic expression of it to increase his worship.

The modern abortion industry offers ritual blood sacrifice to the ancient abortion demon. It is in every way a demonic religion. It has its sacred dogma (“choice”), its ruling hierarchy (Planned Parenthood), its theologians (feminist ideologues), its sacrificing priesthood (abortionists), its temples (abortion mills), altars (surgical tables), ritual victims (primarily babies and secondarily women), acolytes and sacristans (clinic workers and death-scorts), congregations (all supporters of abortion) and its own unifying principle of sacramental “grace” (money). In short, the abortion industry is a perfect demonic system which offers a perverse form of worship to the devil.

The sacrificial victim in this demonic religion is not a brute animal as was offered to the Old Testament God of Israel in a legitimate system of religious sacrifices. In abortion, the victim is an innocent human being who is made in the “image and likeness of God” and who can never defend herself. This combination of innocence, parental participation and ritualized obliteration of the visage of God in human form is the devil’s way of blaspheming the Father with the misguided participation of God’s own children. The systematic destruction of the human body which St. Paul calls “the temple of the Holy Spirit” is a blasphemous insult to God. If the abortion business is not truly demonic, nothing is. (End of excerpt.)

.............................................................................................

From this perspective, the need for a deeply spiritual approach to ending the abortion holocaust is fundamental. It does not absolve us from working in every way humanly possible to end abortion, but it puts all our human activity into the right perspective. In this month of the Precious Blood we must cover every abortionist, abortion mill and client of the abortion industry with Christ’s Blood in order to conquer the blood sacrifice of the devil with the greatest force of good known to man. If His Blood is properly applied over time with great love, we will see conversions from even the most devoted advocates of abortion. The Blood of Christ is a strong shield for all who pray and work for life and reminds us that our pro-life work brings us to Calvary to stand in solidarity with the unborn child who is unjustly deprived of life.

Canadian Pro-Abort MP Gerry Byrne Receives Holy Communion From Archbishop O'Brien

Gerry Byrne, a Catholic, is the Liberal MP for Humber-St. Barbe-Baie Verte riding in the province of Newfoundland and Labrador. According to the Campaign Life Coalition candidate evaluations for the 2006 Federal Election, Byrne’s voting record indicates he is pro-abortion, voting also in favour of cloning and embryo experimentation (ESCR).

On Sunday past, July 15, 2007, according to a highly reliable eye witness, Archbishop Brendan O’Brien of the diocese of St. John’s, NL, served the Body and Blood of Jesus Christ to Gerry Byrne at the Basilica of St. John the Baptist in St. John’s NL.

Archbishop O’Brien is one of Canada’s five newest Archbishops and was recently chosen as the new Archbishop of Kingston. Having been to Rome with the other four Archbishops to attend special ceremonies with the Pope, Archbishop O’Brien will be taking up his new appointment in Kingston possibly this week.

Vote Life, Canada! issued a press release last week calling on these new Archbishops to cease from their hypocrisy and to adhere faithfully to Church teaching for the sake of Canada’s Unborn. The release pointed out particularly,

In 2004 the Pope, then Cardinal Ratzinger, reaffirmed existing provisions of Church Canon Law and issued a directive indicating that Catholic politicians who obstinately persist in supporting pro-abortion laws MUST be denied Holy Communion. Yet there is no record of any Bishop in Canada ever acting on such guidelines, despite nearly four decades of Canadian rule by pro-abortion, pro-sodomy “Catholic” Prime Ministers.

In a related but more detailed statement on June 18, 2007, in its Open Letter to the Catholic Bishops of Canada, Vote Life, Canada! noted

the desecration of the Eucharist by obstinate, dissenting ‘Catholics’ living in grave sin and counts this widespread and large-scale practice as the single greatest contributing factor to Canada's moral descent and disrespect for human life.
The Open Letter is published on another Canadian website in the form of a petition which any Canadian may sign.

The Open Letter asks,

How is it possible to foster respect for human life when disrespect for God Himself, through the Body and Blood of Christ, is not only tolerated but modeled at every Mass?
When Archbishop O’Brien distributed Holy Communion to pro-abortion Gerry Byrne at Sunday Mass, the Archbishop was making a very powerful statement to all those present who knew the Catholic MP. As intermediary for Christ, he was confirming that a Catholic who supports the status quo on child-killing in Canada, thus scorning and defying Church teaching, may simultaneously be in communion with Jesus Christ and with His Church.

For all those witnessing the event with purely human eyes it would have been clear at the very least that the Archbishop himself, a high representative of Christ and His Church, was in communion, i.e. agreement, with the communicant, i.e. Gerry Byrne. During this Mass, in regard to Byrne's reception of the Eucharist, no other message, whether subtle or overt, could have taken precedence over that one.

To reiterate further the message sent to the Bishops of Canada in the Open Letter:

This sacrilege of handing over Jesus to His enemies, through Holy Communion, is no less a crime today than when it was first perpetrated by Pilate 2000 years ago. The Scriptures warn, "For he that eats and drinks unworthily, eats and drinks damnation to himself, not discerning the Lord's body." Furthermore, the Christian "cannot drink the cup of the Lord and the cup of demons; you cannot partake of the table of the Lord and the table of demons." Communion with Christ and communion with devils cannot be had at once. Christians, who by association, sympathies, and actions participate in devilish strategies that destroy life, family and the Common Good, cannot participate in Holy Communion. Unless the Holy Scriptures can lie, the implications of this truth are clear and astounding: No such wholesale sacrilegious communion could take place unless so many Bishops had been communing with demons!

Shockingly then, just as "pro-choice" Pontius Pilate, who was "personally opposed," nevertheless delivered Jesus over to His enemies, so too many Bishops of Canada have dispensed the Body and Blood of Jesus to any and all persons in the communion line, even though independent sources cite that as many as 90% of "Catholics" reject the authority and certain crucial teachings of His Church. The truly faithful Catholics have been scandalized and demoralized for decades by this officially sanctioned sacrilege.

Archbishop Burke's Brigade Will Defend Unborn Children From Catholic Politicians

What would you think of an association of Catholic clergy whose goal is to support all Bishops who
  • ban Communion to Catholic politicians and voters who publicly and obstinately promote or support abortion
  • support legislation to protect and defend sanctity of human life (from conception to natural death),
  • support legislation to protect and defend traditional marriage (between a man & a woman), and the family (mother & father who are also husband & wife, with their children).

Such a group does exist. The Confraternity of Catholic Clergy, a national association of 600 priests and deacons, held its annual workshop for priests, deacons and seminarians in St. Louis July 16-19 and Archbishop Raymond Burke was keynote speaker. Yesterday they issued their annual resolutions.

Yes, it would appear they are genuinely and boldly Catholic, taking the teachings of their Church seriously. Is there an equivalent group in Canada?

Archbishop Burke Speaks to Confraternity; Clergy Voice Their Full Support

SAINT LOUIS, July 20 /Christian Newswire/ -- Archbishop Raymond Burke was keynote speaker for the 32nd annual convocation of the Confraternity of Catholic Clergy, a national association of 600 priests and deacons. This year's conference was held in Saint Louis and included other speakers such as Dr. James and Helen Hitchcock, Msgr. Kevin McMahon and Fr. Fred Miller. The following resolutions were issued at the conclusion of the four day gathering on July 19th

We express our deep gratitude and respect for church leaders like Archbishop Raymond Burke of Saint Louis who courageously, consistently and faithfully defend Holy Mother Church and all her official teachings and disciplines. We strongly support his stand on denying Holy Communion to any Catholic candidate or politician who openly and notoriously supports abortion and/or euthanasia.

We embrace the magisterial teaching of the Congregation for Doctrine of the Faith (CDF) in its recent document on the unicity and necessity of Catholic Church, in which the one, true Church of Jesus Christ, fully subsists. When understood in the full context and accurate context of papal and conciliar decrees ('Dominus Iesus' and 'Lumen Gentium'), this doctrine is not a hindrance to ecumenical endeavors nor does it deviate from previous and perennially taught dogmas on the ecclesiological nature of the church.

We thank Pope Benedict XVI for his recent motu proprio 'Summorum Pontificum' and hope it will be fully, freely and universally implemented in every diocese throughout the world. We see the invaluable treasure of preserving the old Latin "Tridentine" Mass, (extraordinary form of the Roman Rite), for the spiritual benefit of all the faithful who request it. We furthermore affirm the necessity of reverently and properly celebrating the vernacular Novus Ordo Mass of Paul VI, (ordinary form of the same Roman Rite). Our prayer is that this will bring back many of the clergy and lay faithful who have gravitated to schismatic groups in reaction to serious abuses committed by some priests who have irreverently celebrated the new Mass in English since the Vatican II.

We urge the bishops of the English speaking nations to quickly endorse a totally accurate translation of the Roman Missal which would be completely faithful to the typical Latin text. As celebrants of the Holy Mass, we see the necessity of and urgency of restoring sacred language and replacing all pedestrian verbiage in Divine worship since the Holy Eucharist is the 'source and summit of Christian life.'

As we prepare for the 40th anniversary of 'Humanae Vitae' next year, we encourage our brother priests and deacons to reacquaint themselves with this prophetic papal encyclical of Paul VI and we commend our American bishops for the recent USCCB document on Natural Family Planning, 'Married Love and the Gift of Life' (November, 2006).

We pledge as faithful sons of the Church our continued prayers and complete obedience to the Vicar of Christ, Pope Benedict XVI, and eagerly await his first pastoral visit to the United States.

Contracepting The Environment

A few weeks ago, I identified what I considered to be the Trojan Horse of Modern Christian Societies, i.e. contraception.

A Trojan horse by definition is someone or something intended to defeat or subvert from within usually by deceptive means. A more contemporary term might be “fifth column” or “mole.” I also alluded to the sinister connection between contraception and abortion which always exists in a pagan culture and which has been constantly noted by Christian theologians.

I won’t rehash the content of that posting but I will note the extremely lame arguments offered by otherwise impressive minds when it comes to defending contraception. A simple review of the experience of sincere Christians seeking the truth about birth control is in itself very revealing. These sorts of accounts, more than anything else, testify to the deafening silence in the Christian community as a whole on the subject of contraception.

But contraception is more than a Trojan horse or a fifth column. It is also Christianity’s “sacred cow,” as confirmed by a very alarming story brought to light this week. It concerned the fact that hormonal contraceptives [birth control pills] are polluting our drinking water supplies yet environmentalists are turning a blind eye. Apparently the massive amounts of synthetic birth control hormones being pumped into the water systems through sewage outflow is changing the sex of fish stocks.

LifeSiteNews.com issued a good summary of the article and noted

The National Catholic Register, reporting on the issue, quotes George Harden, a board member of the Society of Catholic Social Scientists, saying "If you're killing mosquitoes to save people from the West Nile virus, you can count on secular environmentalists to lay down in front of the vapour truck, claiming some potential side effect that might result from the spray," Harden said. "But if birth control deforms fish - backed by the proof of an EPA study - and threatens the drinking supply, mum will be the word."
The answer to the problem, if indeed society is even prepared to face up to it as a problem, will include some extremely radical thinking, as noted in the final paragraphs of the NCR article:

To avoid genetically modified crops, Ball said, one needed only to buy organic, genetically modified organism-free products at health food stores. Asking residents to stop polluting water with hormones, however, “gets into the bedroom.”

“I’m not going there,” Ball said. “This involves people’s personal lives, child bearing issues, sex lives and personal choices. Maybe people are saying, ‘O my God, what do we do about this?’

As shocking and traumatic as the proposition is of altering sexual behaviour in order to save the drinking water and the fishes, the environmental link is relatively low on the list of impacts to modern “Christian” society by the contraceptive mentality. A very good case can be made for contraception as the major contributing cause of our demographic collapse, immigration crisis, looming financial catastrophe and also for the rise of the Islamic threat, a deadly combination which, if not drastically curbed—and immediately—could signal the end of Western civilization as we know it.

Troy was destroyed by the Trojan horse of the Greeks. Will we fare any better from the effects of our Trojan horse?

It really depends on our courage to face up to the truth and to act decisively.

Press Release: Vote Life, Canada! Address Canada's Five Newest Archbishops

Vote Life, Canada! Salutes Canada’s Five Newest Archbishops Returning from Rome but Pleads with Them to Desist from Their Hypocrisy for the Sake of Canada’s Unborn

Contact: Eric Alcock, President, Vote Life, Canada! 709-773-0700

Calgary, AB, July 12/Christian Newswire—No less than five new Canadian Archbishops are currently being welcomed back from Rome after special ceremonies with the Pope.

However, Vote Life, Canada! President Eric Alcock protests that the Bishops regularly travel to Rome, kissing the Pope’s hand, and enjoying his company, while too many of them return to Canada to resume their leadership over a culture recently described by Vote Life, Canada! in an Open Letter to the Bishops as “pseudo-catholic.”

Alcock noted that “the Archbishops knelt before Pope Benedict XVI on June 29, each receiving his pallium, a woolen band symbolizing their unity with the Pope and their shared responsibility of shepherding the Church’s flock.” Yet the task of successful shepherding is wholly dependent on fidelity to Church teaching and doctrine explained Alcock. “It is quite hypocritical of Bishops to wear Catholic faces when in the Pope’s presence but to pick and choose, cafeteria style, from Church teaching once they step off the plane in Canada.”

One rabid pro-abortion Prime Minister was even defended by his Bishop as a “faithful parishioner” as recently as 2005.

The open dissent of Canada’s Bishops in 1968 to the Pope’s directives on birth control helped to launch Canada on its path to sexual perversion, family breakdown and child-killing and never have they recanted their contrary position. In contrast, the Pope reiterates, as he did on his recent visit to Brazil, unchanging Church doctrine by condemning legalized contraception and abortion as grave evils opposed to the common good of society. But in Canada the word “contraception,” is stricken from the Bishops’ records, never to be discussed or spelled out on paper or websites. Far too often the word “abortion” suffers a similar fate, rarely even the subject of official prayer by the Bishops, a dead justice issue overshadowed by drinking water rights, immigration and gambling.

Vote Life, Canada! pleads with the newest Archbishops to break the pattern of hypocrisy through renewed fidelity to Catholic teachings, thus launching a culture of life in Canada which promises legal protection for Canada’s Unborn.

The Ultimate Woman's Right's Conundrum: Sex-Selective Abortion

From the latest United Families Newsletter.

"For many...even those who are pro-choice, the matter may not appear quite so simple. Two norms in the United States press against a right to sex-selection abortion: one is an equality norm, and the other is a belief -- shared by many who support abortion rights -- that terminating a pregnancy is a serious act that must not be undertaken for affirmatively bad reasons."
Sherry Colb, Rutgers University Law Professor

Dear Friends of the Family,

Welcome to the 21st century. Marvels and conveniences brought on by science and technology have removed the drudgery of every day life and made work more efficient and even enjoyable.

As we have learned through the ages, technology and scientific advances can be used for good or for bad purposes. This is the case when it comes to ultrasound machines, and other newer technologies that reveal the sex of an unborn child. Who would have imagined technology developed to diagnose illness and save lives would evolve into a vehicle to help extinguish life because it did not suit another person's wishes? With this knowledge, one must ask how a culture that values gender over life itself can expect to one day value anything.

Social and political scientists concerned about sex ratios of nations

China and India have been the focus of much study because of their ratio of male to female new births. For every 100 baby girls born in China and India, about 120 - 130 baby boys are born. This is alarming as the average ratio in other countries and formerly in both of these nations is much lower, closer to 105 boys to 100 girls. This fairly new phenomena is believed to be caused by prenatal sex-selective abortion.

Sex-selective abortion is defined as the practice of purposely seeking out the gender of an unborn child and aborting it based on its gender. Cultural norms, such as those in China and India where male children are preferred for social and financial reasons compound other important determinants such as poverty, government birth plans, and the composition of prior siblings. If China's "one child" law meant to reduce its population explosion of the last decade, then it worked; the rate of population growth has slowed considerably, however China is fast becoming the land of missing women.

A 1996 study conducted by a Chinese researcher claimed that 85% of aborted fetuses in Zhejiang, a rural county in China, were female. More recent studies conclude that sex-selective abortion of baby girls and female infanticide, the killing of new-born baby girls, are prevalent in every sector of Chinese society, more so in rural China.

Unintended consequences bring violence to the world

The United Nations reports that 7,000 girls daily are the victims of sex selective abortions in India. India, another Asian country that practices son preference for similar reasons to the Chinese, has 16 million more boys than girls under the age of 15. China has 14 million more boys than girls of the same age group, one of the unintended consequences to this inhumane crime against women and society.

A book by Professors Valerie M. Hudson and Andrea M. der Boer, called Bare Branches: Security Implications of Asia's Surplus Male Population, warns that war brought on by China and India is imminent. With millions of unmarried males to deal with, the governments of India and China will find it convenient to develop and send their overabundance of men to war. By the year 2020, China is expected to have over 40 million more men than women. Other nations, especially in the European Union will find defending their homeland difficult since most European nations are well below the population replacement level.

Other unintended consequences from female infanticide and the imbalance of male and female ratios include rape, sex trafficking and prostitution, increased crime, societal unrest and obstruction to the development of democracy and prosperity.

Even though China and India are recognized as the worst offenders of prenatal sex-selective abortion by the United Nations, other nations are grappling with the same problem, but for different reasons.

Designer families

Sex-selective abortion is frequently performed for non-medical reasons that do not threaten the life of the mother. Some families opt for it simply to balance the gender of their children; others are utilizing today's technology to "design" their own families. Geneticists, ethicists, pro-life and pro-family experts are alarmed over the potential harm this practice will have to children, families and society as a whole.

Marcy Darnovsky, associate executive director for the Council for Responsible Genetics and author of, Revisiting Sex Selection: the Growing Popularity of New Sex Selection Methods Revives an Old Debate states:

This constellation of technological, economic, cultural, and ideological developments has revived the issue of sex selection, relatively dormant for more than a decade...These include the prospect that selection could reinforce misogyny, sexism, and gender stereotypes; undermine the well-being of children by treating them as commodities and subjecting them to excessive parental expectations or disappointment; skew sex ratios in local populations; further the commercialization of reproduction; and open the door to a high-tech consumer eugenics.

A British company called DNA Worldwide is currently selling a mail order kit that determines the sex of unborn children as early as six weeks into a pregnancy. The company sells worldwide over the Internet, except to India and China. Since the kit is sold as "informational" and not medical, no regulation is necessary. The Pink or Blue Early Test Kit claims up to 99% accuracy and costs about $500.

Stopping the madness

Countries like Australia have begun investigations into the ethics and accuracy of such a kit. Many fear that the kit will be used to sex select offspring. Australian Health Minister Tony Abbott, who called for the investigation said, "I have to say, speaking as a citizen rather than as a health minister, I tend to...regard kids as a gift to be cherished rather than as a commodity."

In Canada the law forbids sex selection for in vitro fertilization or other similar procedures, except in rare instances. It is clear that Canadian citizens are opposed to sex-selective abortion, even though there is no law restricting sex-selective abortion after the fetus is a few weeks old.

This past March at the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women (CSW), in New York, the United States and South Korea co-sponsored a resolution calling for the elimination of prenatal sex selection and female infanticide. However, the resolution was withdrawn due to the objections of China, India, Canada, Costa Rica, Mexico and others.

Nevertheless, the CSW did address the practice of female infanticide. Included in its "Agreed Conclusions on the Elimination of all Forms of Discrimination and Violence against the Girl Child" was this entry:

14.9. Violence and discrimination:
h. Eliminate all forms of discrimination against the girl child and the root causes of son preference, which results in harmful and unethical practices regarding female infanticide and prenatal sex selection, which may have significant repercussions on society as a whole;...

Working together to rid the world of "bad reasons"

Just as UFI found some nations at the CSW/United Nations conference opposed to a resolution decrying sex-selective abortion, some pro-choice groups and individuals may stand by their belief that a woman has the right to terminate a pregnancy for any reason - at any time. This position will undoubtedly be controversial as the technological consequences of this crime against nature and women continues to come to light.

Warmly,
Carol Soelberg, President
United Families International
